There are so many options for fillers now with new companies such as Revanesse and Revance joining the market, and the demand for lip fillers has skyrocketed recently. The fillers with current FDA indication for lip include Restylane-L, Restylane Silk, Restylane Kysse, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Volbella, and Revanesse Lips+. RHA Redensity is approved for moderate to severe dynamic perioral rhytids1.

When choosing which filler to use one important consideration is the level of enhancement you are looking for. For slight lip hydration and minor, smother enhancements, Restylane Silk, Kysse, Juvederm Volbella or Revanesse Lips+ will give you a smooth, dynamic finish. When trying to achieve a higher volume enhancement, or augment the vertical lip pillars, products like Restylane, Juvederm Ultra or RHA 2 are excellent. I tend to save these for second timers and they result in more induration and swelling initially as they are heavier products with higher G’.

The Restylane Kysse is more elastic than Restylane and Restylane Silk due to the xPresHAn technology2.  Similarly, Juvederm Volbella, is more pliable and durable than Ultra due to the Vycross technology3. These technologies increase duration and give a smoother finish, which are supr important when treating lips. In general the Restylane line tends to lead to less swelling when compared to Juvederm, and the Revanesse products have the least amount of swelling due to less hydrophyllic spherical particles4. At the end of the day, the best product line to use is the one you are most comfortable to give your patients the best result. Cost is also a factor to consider, as patients want the best outcome for the most reasonable price.
